  • How long can my plant be left in the shipping package before planting?

Typically, once you have inspected package upon receipt, bare root plants can be stored in their packaging, placed in a cool area up to 1 week. Please check our plant care page for a more specific answer.

  • How do I care for the plant while waiting? Where do I store it?

For Bare Root: Open and check for moisture. If the packing material is dry, add enough water to re-moisten (without soaking). and reseal package until ready to plant.

For Packaged: Remove from shipping package and check for any damage to poly bag protecting root and media. If you do not plant within 1 week of receipt, check media surrounding root for moisture. If dry, add enough water to re-moisten without soaking.

Store in a cool place, and keep out of direct sunlight.

  • Will my plant need winter protection?

Most plants will benefit from winter protection in their first year. Please check our plant care page for a more specific answer.

  • Will my plant flower/fruit the first year?

If you are planting an ornamental/flowering plant, it will vary depending on bloom time. Many late spring/summer flowering varieties will show some limited flowering the first year.

If you are planting a fruit bearing plant, it is possible to have flowering/fruiting the first year but it is generally recommended that you remove the flowers in the first year to prevent fruiting. This will help your plant become established and produce better crops in the following years.

Please check our plant care page for more specific answers.

  • Will planting instructions come with my shipment? Is it possible to view the instructions before I make my purchase?

Your packaged/potted plant will include instructions.  Instructions for your bare root plant and care information for all our offerings can be viewed on our plant care page.

  • How do I know which ship date/planting time to choose?

Generally you should try to pick a date that corresponds with the traditional start of spring in your area. Obviously this will vary some from year to year and we may hold shipments if weather dictates. You should make every effort to plant as soon as possible upon receipt, but we take great care to package for maximum shelf life. Please see plant care page for more specific answers.
